This presentation looked at a bit of the history of population and household projections, why users want them and what we use them for. Local authorities, and others, use population and household projections for many aspects of their forward planning. In particular they are used in Structure Plans, Local Plans and Housing Strategies. They also provide background for service planning.
The presentation also looked at what aspects of the projections are particularly useful, what we need in terms of timescales and geography and why and how some local authorities carry out their own projections. Difficulties relating to geography and the supply of base data were discussed as well as some additional requirements which we may have.
