Information on data zones from Scottish Neighbourhood Statistics

Small area population estimates are produced at data zone level (areas with approximately 500-1000 household residents). They can also be obtained from the Scottish Neighbourhood Statistics (SNS) website, along with maps of data zones and geographic information, including shape files of data zone boundaries

Data zone Reference Material, and examples of Best Practice, are available on the Scottish Government website.

Note: On 27 July 2007 the Mid-year population estimates for 2003-2006 were revised for the 6 Council areas of Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire, Angus, Dundee City, Moray and Perth & Kinross. The statistics available on this page for 2003-2006 were produced using the revised population estimates. These revised estimates replace the previously published figures  More details on the “Revised Mid-year Population Estimates 2003-2006” are available from this website.
