Population Projections Scotland (2002-based) -
Population projections by sex, age and administrative area

1. Introduction

This paper summarises the Registrar General for Scotland's mid-2002 based population projections for the council and health board areas of Scotland. The projections are consistent with the mid-2002 based national population projections for Scotland prepared by the Government Actuary's Department (GAD) in consultation with, and at the request of, the Registrar General. A reference volume about the projections for the four countries of the United Kingdom will be published later in 2004 (ONS Series PP2 no 25). This volume will contain details of the methodology and underlying assumptions used in producing the national projections.

Section 2 summarises the methodology used in the sub-national projections and describes the underlying fertility, mortality, and migration assumptions. A brief commentary on the results is given in Section 3. The projections are made in more detail than is given in this report. Further information can be obtained from the General Register Office for Scotland (GROS) - see Further information.
