This occasional paper makes available a wide range of information on travel to work or study, particularly at local authority level. It incorporates a wide range of tables analysing travel at that level and the paper also looks at travel between (and within) categories of urban and rural areas.
Almost all of the information in this paper has come from the 2001 Census. In 2001, the Census asked people to say where (if anywhere) they travelled to for their main place of work or study, and their replies gave details about those who travelled to work or study by various characteristics and geographical areas. More detailed information on the Census is given in the Appendix to this report.
