Vital Events Quarterly Return for Second Quarter 2004

Today the Registrar General has issued his Vital Events Quarterly Return for the second quarter of 2004.

The return presents provisional figures for vital events (births, deaths and marriages) registered during the period 1 April 2004 to 30 June 2004.

Duncan Macniven, Registrar General for Scotland, said,

"It is encouraging to learn that the number of births is 3.4% higher than the second quarter last year. In all but one quarter since the middle of 2002, there have been more births than the same period in the previous year. This quarter, the number of deaths was 3.6% lower than in the second quarter of 2003."
