Further detailed results from Scotland's Census 2001 are released today in two publications: Scotland's Census 2001 - Reference Volume and Key Statistics for Settlements and Localities Scotland.
The first of these, Scotland's Census 2001 - Reference Volume, sets out, for Scotland level only, details of statistical tables produced for the 2001 Census and provides a reference guide to the Area Statistics available in electronic format for smaller geographical areas. The second report, Key Statistics for Settlements and Localities Scotland, provides summary statistics for the majority of Census questions and topics (including housing, health, educational qualifications, transport, industry and occupation, religion, ethnic group, Gaelic) for each settlement and locality as defined by the Registrar General. Corresponding Key Statistics for Council areas were published on 13 February.
These publications lead the way for the release of detailed results for smaller geographical areas in a combination of electronic formats (CD and SCROL website). There are six CDs which will provide easy and free access to the detailed results presented in the Key Statistics and Reference volumes. The first of these is available today with others to follow soon. In addition, the SCROL (Scotland's Census Results OnLine) website will be available later this month and will be progressively updated to include more results as they become available. The availability of later CDs and updates to SCROL will be notified through the main GROS website
Also published today is CD1, Key Statistics and Univariate Statistics for Administrative and Electoral Areas. This CD contains summary results covering all of the Census topics for a range of areas (Council areas, wards, Scottish Parliamentary Regions and Constituencies, and Health Board areas). Details of the other 5 CD products and their intended dates of release are:

CD6 - Key Statistics, Univariate Statistics and Census Area Statistics for Civil Parishes and Inhabited Islands (Available: to be announced)

By the end of March, the first release of the SCROL (Scotland's Census Results OnLine) website will be available at www.scrol.gov.uk. Initially, this only includes Census Profiles (short, topical indicators for key areas) with further results, such as those outlined in the Reference Volume, for smaller geographical areas being added progressively. Updates to the site will be notified through the Census pages of the GROS website and through the SCROL website itself.
The following reports were published earlier: Scotland's Census 2001 - 2001 Population Report (GROS 2002, ISBN 1-874451-66-4 £5.00); The Registrar General's 2001 Census Report to the Scottish Parliament (GROS 2003, ISBN 1-874451-70-2 £6.00); and Key Statistics for Council areas and Health Board areas, Scotland (GROS 2003, ISBN 1-874451-67-2 £6.00). The publication A guide to the results and how to obtain them, which is available on the GROS website contains more information on the different geographical areas available, details of all of the Census products, including those already published, and the differing methods of accessing the various products.
Census results for England & Wales can be found on the Office for National Statistics website and results from the Northern Irish Census on the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency's website.
All 2001 Census results have been adjusted to take account of estimated undercoverage in the Census based on the One Number Census methodology, which used the results of the Census Coverage Survey (more information on the One Number Census is available). Table KS01 in the Key Statistics report includes population figures reaggregated from the 1991 Census which were not adjusted for underenumeration like those for 2001. The 1991 and 2001 figures are therefore not truly comparable. The figures from the 1991 Census are included in KS01 because the table is also available for areas such as 2001 wards for which there will be no revised 1991 figure for comparison and in order to maintain a common format for the table for all types of areas.
Information on distance travelled to work and migration within the UK was intended to be included in the reports. However, this information was not available at the time of publication and the relevant tables, or columns within tables, have been left blank to provide a guide as to what will become available in May 2003.
