Over 99 per cent of all Scottish Census forms had been delivered by Friday evening, 27 April, and the very few remaining should reach householders over this weekend. Anyone who has missed out on the delivery can still phone the Census Helpline - 0845 602 2001 - and a form will be got to them as early as possible in the week.
"Practically everyone in Scotland has already received their forms as planned and we will ensure that the very few remaining forms are delivered in the next few days.
"Our Census Helpline came under pressure last Monday and Tuesday, but we coped. Calls since then have been handled virtually immediately. While some callers have been asking for advice on how to answer questions the great majority have simply been letting us know they had not yet received a form.
"I would ask people to fill in their forms today and post them back in the post-paid envelope provided during the coming week. As long as we receive completed forms by next weekend there will be no need to contact householders again, but Enumerators will follow up any forms which have not been returned by Wednesday, 9 May."
