Glossary of Terms

Explanation of abbreviations and terms used in the Hall of Fame.

Fr - The frame reference of the entry on the microfilm copy of the old parish register

Blotter - a term applied in counting houses to a waste book. A rough draft of a letter.(Oxford English Dictionary)

MR - Miscellaneous Registers ie. those relating to births, deaths and marriages that are not part of the statutory records or the old parish register series.

FN - Register of births, deaths and marriages in foreign countries (1860 - 1965). Records of the births of children of Scottish parents and marriages and deaths of Scots, the entries being made on the basis of information supplied by the parties concerned and after consideration of the evidence of each event.
