Professor GROS

Why do we need a Census?

Enormous sums of money are invested every year in people, in their houses, in healthcare, in new roads, in improving schools, in transport and so on. The government and local councils and other organisations who provide services have to know all the places where this money needs to be spent. The Census gives them this important information. The details gathered by the Census are set out in tables, graphs and charts which give a picture of life in the United Kingdom in a way which lets businesses and councils see where there is need.
