The Registrar General for Scotland is responsible for taking the Census in Scotland. In England and Wales it is the Office for National Statistics, and in Northern Ireland it is the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency. The Registrar General for Scotland also looks after the collection of statistics to do with what are called 'Vital Events', the details of all births, deaths and marriages in Scotland.
