In Scotland it costs about £3,000,000 a year. As 5.1 million people live in Scotland that works out at only 58p per person per year. Annual public expenditure by the Scottish Executive, for instance, works out at more than £500 per second per year! So what the Census costs per person per year is spent in about 1000th of a second! Or the total annual cost of £3m equals about 90 minutes of Scottish Executive expenditure.
