The census is a big and complex task. The General Register Office for Scotland (GROS) is undertaking an extensive research and consultation programme to make sure that people understand the questions and that the questionnaire delivery and processing arrangements work.
Consultation and Research
The final phase of our extensive consultation programme has begun and we are now focusing on the outputs from the census. Outputs are an assortment of census products that are designed to meet a wide range of users of census data. The 2001 Census tabular outputs can be accessed on the SCROL website. We are inviting users to get involved and help shape the main statistical outputs and specialist products that will be produced from the 2011 Census. You can also find out about the extensive work we have already done to ensure the 2011 Census asks the questions that will support our future public services.
2009 Census Rehearsal
GROS rehearsed its approach to the next census by delivering questionnaires to around 50,000 households in west Edinburgh and Lewis and Harris in time for census rehearsal day, on Sunday 29 March 2009.
2006 Census Test
GROS tested its initial plans for the next census in the 2006 census test.
