Research

Many activities are undertaken to ensure census user's views are taken into account. This section aims to give comprehensive and up to date information and progress.

Question Development and UK harmonisation
New questions must be thoroughly tested before they can be deemed suitable for a census. Further details about how questions are selected for the census can be found on the Scotland's Census website.

Cognitive Testing Research
In order to finalise the question set and questionnaire for the 2011 census, we commissioned Ipsos MORI Scotland to carry out cognitive testing. This has been conducted throughout 2009.

Census test and rehearsal

We also held a census test in 2006 and a rehearsal in 2009 to test our own readiness for the 2011 Census.
