Welcome to the 2011 Census page

Scotland’s census is organised by the National Records of Scotland (NRS) - previously the General Register Office for Scotland (GROS).

A specimen of the 2011 Household Questionnaire is available as a PDF file (781 Kb).

Our approach to the census is outlined in key documents, such as the Scotland's Census 2011 Government Statement and its supporting evidence paper, within the Policy and Methodology section.

Preparations
NRS undertook extensive research and consultation in advance of the census, to make sure that people would understand the questions and that the questionnaire delivery and processing arrangements would work.

Scotland's Census website
Scotland’s census has its own website it contains news, frequently asked questions and background information.

Every householder is obliged by law to complete a census questionnaire. Because the census is compulsory, people have the right to expect the information they provide is to be kept confidential. The Confidentiality Statement on the Scotland's Census website provides further information.
