Scottish Origin-destination Travel Data on NOMIS Website

Full Scottish origin-destination data on travel flows, for tables TV101-TV107, has now been put on the NOMIS Official Labour Market Statistics website. This data can be viewed and downloaded free of charge.

The data shows daily flows to place of work or study for all people resident in Scotland, from Scottish local authority of residence to local authority area of work/study in Great Britain (parliamentary constituency area in Northern Ireland). There are also categories for those whose place of work or study is offshore (outside Scotland but within the UK) and outside the UK.

The release of this Scottish dataset follows the earlier release, in December 2007, of United Kingdom data covering those aged 16-74 who are in employment (see earlier Census Update entitled “Origin-destination Travel Data on NOMIS Website”). It is recommended that users who wish to analyse Scottish data only should use the full Scottish dataset.

The inclusion of these tables on the NOMIS Official Labour Market Statistics website enables easier and greater access to 2001 Census travel data for the specialist and more general user alike. If you have not used NOMIS before, access to the full Scottish data is available by clicking on either the “Wizard query” or the “Advanced query” options that appear on the home page and then clicking on “2001 Census – Scottish travel flows (local authority)”. The Wizard query will assist you in choosing the geographic areas and data topics you require.
